Mai Chau & Pu Luong 3 days

A three-day in the Mai Chau & Pu Luong area gives us that added amount of time to get up close and personal with the Thai people and the natural wonders of the area. Take your time, learn, and explore as you feel necessary.

Day 1: Hanoi - Mai Chau - Pu Luong (170 km & 3hour walk)
Depart from your Hanoi hotel at 8:00 am transferring to Mai Chau. Daydream as we drive a safe route with spectacular views around every bend. Upon arrival at Poom Coom village in Mai Chau, we will take a short walk to visit the ethnic Thai people, then lunch will be served at local home. By 1:00 pm take a short ride (15 minutes) to the Ma river, where we will take a short boat trip then start a 2 to 3 hour walk through beautiful hill side villages, magnificent rice paddies, seeing hand crafted bamboo water wheels. The highlight on this walk is experiencing the beauty of Pu luong Nature Reserve, the everyday life and culture of the white Thai people. Become a part of local life when we are welcomed as honored guests at a traditional Thai home on stilts. Here in Hang village we will have a traditional dinner and stay the night.

Day 2: Pu Luong
It will be interesting for you to get up and observe, or even take part in their activities in the morning because the daily life here starts early, take an opportunity to stroll around Hang village before having breakfast served by Thai people, then at 8 a.m start our trek. Today we will be walking approximately 5 to 6 hrs .The first hiking is hard with some steep climbs and yet more stream crossing, the next is really glorious with beautiful views of valley, rice terraces, rich rain forest, streams. Picnic lunch on the way at Eo Ken village, arrival in Kho Muong - the setting of the village is perhaps the most beautiful in Vietnam. It is recommended to stroll round the village and join in as villagers go about their daily lives, or relax in one of the three-eco homestays superbly set up by FFI (Flora and Fauna International) in conjunction with local villages. Please be soft and nice, nature is just very lovely here. Arrival in Kho Muong village in the afternoon. Here we will spend our second night in a typical Thai eco - stilt house.

Day 3: Pu Luong - Thanh Hoa, drive back to Hanoi
After having breakfast, start for an easy day trek. We will continue on through beautiful valley, unspoiled villages with nice view, sure with much impression. Relax from the heat of the day before continuing on to a village nestled between steep karts mountains and nice terraces. Arrive a small town in Pho Doan market after 3-4 hrs trekking. Short break for lunch in a local food stall in the town. Our driver will bring us to Canh Nang, follow 217 road to Cam Thuy and back to Hanoi. Finish our trip at your hotel in Hanoi.

Conquer the top of Mt. Fansipan 4 days

Sapa is renowned for its trekking, with South East Asia�s highest peak, Mt. Fansipan (3,143 m) providing the perfect venue. This 3 day trek with outdoor camping offers all of the challenges and rewards of any hike. At the summit you be one of the few to have reached up and touched the clouds.

Day 1: Sapa, hike up to the 2700m
The Night Before: Transfer from your hotel to the Hanoi Train Station for boarding at 9:15 pm. You will be in shared AC soft sleeper cabins of 4 to travel North to Lao Cai town. The train arrives in Lao Cai at about 6:30 am where your Footprint guide will welcome you. Look for the "Footprint Travel" sign when you exit the train station. Then take a morning drive through the clouds by car/van to Sapa (about 1.5 hours). Arrive in Sapa at around 7:30 am, have breakfast, a short rest and some last preparation for the challenging hike. Transfer by jeep/van to the starting point at Tram Ton Pass which is 15 km from Sapa town. Start hiking through the jungle rain forest along wild mountain streams. Break for a picnic lunch in the middle of an evergreen forest. More hiking to an elevation of about 2900 meters where we will make base camp. Local Hmong porters will help us to set up camp, start a small fire and prepare dinner. Share stories of past journeys and cultural myths under the stars before retiring for the night.

Day 2: Challenge to TOP and down to 2600m
Breakfast at the first sign of daylight then final preparations for today, the longest day of hiking to the summit of Mt. Fansipan. The first section is steep and very challenging as we weave our way through the bamboo forests. At some points we are even forced to use ropes and harnesses for safety. We are rewarded with all our hardships forgotten and with the impression of standing on the top of Indochina. After a picnic lunch and a rest at the summit, we begin our descent to base camp. Clean off and refresh at a mountain stream while our Hmong porters set up camp and prepare dinner. Overnight again under the stars with the satisfaction of the day's accomplishment.

Day 3: Back down and night in Sapa.
Upon leaving the base camp, we begin walking downhill back to Sapa town. The steep trail is somewhat arduous but we have great opportunities to get some fantastic views from our vantage point. See the surrounding mountains, terraced valleys and quiet hilltribe villages far in the distance. Picnic lunch on the way, then we will be picked up in Sin Chai village and transferred back to Sapa town. When we arrive back in Sapa we will check in to the hotel take a shower and a rest. Your full afternoon is free in town for relaxing, shopping or befriending some of the local children. Dinner is on your own, overnight in a hotel in Sapa town.

Day 4: Free round Sapa. Night train to Hanoi
Wake up in Sapa town, breakfast at the hotel then enjoy the morning with some of your new friends that you may have met the afternoon before. Today your guide is available to you for the whole day, although, you have the entire day for free time and visiting the lively markets. Some suggestions include a visit to the orchid gardens of Dragon Mountain, or a cultural day trek to Taphin village. In late afternoon, depart from your hotel for the Lao Cai train station at 5:30 pm. The train leaves Lao Cai at 8:15 pm and arrives after a pleasant sleep in your first class, shared AC soft berth to Hanoi by 4:30 am. Please find your own way to your hotel, a taxi normally costs you a set of 50,000 VND.

Sapa Medium Trek 3 days

Day 1: Hanoi - Lao Cai - Sapa, trek to Ta Phin ( ~ 14km)
The night before: 8:00 pm transfer to the Hanoi train station for boarding at 9:15 pm. You will be in shared AC soft sleeper cabins to travel North to Lao Cai town.) Today's morning: The train arrives at about 6:00 am; look for the "Footprint Travel" sign when you exit the train station, as our guide will pick you up. Then take a morning drive through the clouds by car / van to Sapa (~ 1.5 hours). When you arrive in Sapa you will be taken to a local restaurant for a morning shower & breakfast. We will then take short ride from Sapa to our trekking base where we start our trek up and down hills (~ 5 - 6 hrs) through terraced rice fields, bamboo ranges and many minority villages. Lunch break before we keep hitting the road to Ta Phin village. Our Dao host family will welcome you to their traditional home where we will share in an ethnic style dinner and stay the night.

Day 2: More in Ta Phin and back to Sapa
At the first gleam of daylight, you will see and hear the sounds of morning village life. You can join your host family in some of their activities like feeding the animals, cleaning the houses, gardening or preparing breakfast. After breakfast, we could take a short morning wander around the village or resulting in more time spent with the host family. You will be then supported by our car / van back to Sapa (30 minutes). When we arrive back in Sapa, check in to the hotel, shower, and pause for lunch on your own. At 2:30 pm we will take an easy walk (~ 5km) to Cat Cat village, homeland of Black H'mong hill tribe and to take part in a traditional ethnic music performance put on by the ethnic minority people. Your own dinner and evening, sleep in the hotel in Sapa. Note: The music show in CatCat is closed on Wed afternoon, an alternative will be arranged.

Day 3: A wonderful trek to Hmong village (~ 6 km), then Lao Cai for night train to Hanoi
Wake up in Sapa town, breakfast at the hotel then enjoy the morning with some of your new friends that you may have met the afternoon before. You have the entire morning and lunch for free time and visiting the lively markets. At around 2:00 pm, travel by car/van down to the south of Sapa town then we will do a mix of wonderful trek & hike along the terraced paddy fields, streams and villages (~ 2- 3 hrs) to visit the peaceful Hmong village of Y Linh Ho to learn more about the Black Hmong. You will return to Sapa by van. A refreshing shower will be arranged before your train in Sapa or Lao Cai. Dinner on your own well before the train leaves for Hanoi and arrives to Hanoi at about 5:00 am. Please find your own way back to your hotel (a taxi normally costs you a set of about 50,000 dong to the hotel in the city center)

Day 1: Hanoi to Halong - Bai Tu Long Bay, welcome on fisher man board
Welcome aboard! Cruise Ha Long to Bai Tu Long. Have Lunch in the floating restaurant. Embark at noon, a slow cruise on the fisherman style boat, to the famous islands of Halong Bay and onto Bai Tu Long Bay, you will be lead by the local fisherman to go fishing and doing their daily work, this will bring you more experience rather than being in the comfort. Sail back home and stay the night at one of the homes in Vong Vieng fishing village, evening talk with the fisherman.

Day 2: Bai Tu Long - Hanoi
Some more fishing, cruise and return to Ha Long. Maybe some more fishing with the locals, then we spend the rest of our morning on cruise to visit "Thien Canh Son" cave and more of the Bai Tu Long. Cruise back to Halong city, lunch is served ashore then bus back to your hotel.
